I decided to write this post because there are already several clients who have called me for the same subject. When the vehicle or car is off, the car battery is discharged or the next day, the car does not start (do not turn the starter motor and the needles of the board go crazy, the relays strike and take off quickly, typical symptom of low battery)
Why does not the car start?
First, always dialogue with the client to be able to go deeper into "the car does not start" and when I see that the battery is the problem, I consult a little more .. for example; ¿How long have you not used it?, ¿what are the usual routes?, ¿if you have not forgotten any lights on?, which is what the vehicle does when it tries to start it, how long ago it changed the battery, among other questions.
Case Example:
Once in dialogue with the client, I will see the vehicle. The car is a Citroen C3 year 2011.
- First step: I grab the key and try to open with the remote control and it does not work, the first symptom of a discharged battery.
- Second step: I open with the key and I get ready to start it. I turn the key giving it a start and it is heard .. the car is not starter.. "Trrrrrrrrrrr" "tac tac tac" (relays that lock and others that stick and take off); the orange light of the speedometer turns on and off quickly; typical battery symptoms discharged .. and obviously the starter did not try to turn, very low voltage / insufficient amperage.
- Third step: I'm going to look at the engine compartment, where the battery is to look a little
the battery if it does not have good connections and very wet days are prone to sulfation ..
probably in two or three weeks that it had been covered corrosion / sulfate generating battery discharge.
Finally, the customer is warned about this issue and proceeds to eliminate the sulfate, sand the terminals and leave it optimal for proper operation.
¿How to clean the sulfation in the battery?
in the video we can see how to clean the terminals of the sulfated battery
We verify the battery voltage with the multimeter; and yes, the voltage gives 7v .. which, the battery is very discharged ... (if we do not remember how to do the measurement, see here).
The first thing we do is to make a bridge (previously reviewing the user manual by looking at the manufacturer's recommendations ..).
